Interviewing Winter

Writer's picture: KK

Welcome once again to the best part of this blog, K's Corner! You're here because this is where the good stuff happens. I know this is only my second post, but I'm fairly certain what I have to say is more interesting than anything else posted. Although, admittedly, I do enjoy some of the other short stories, but I would never tell Ole Seph (my nickname for Josephine Winter when she's not around) that.

Let's get to it!

I had a sit down with Miss Winter recently to ask her a few questions. She's a horrid woman, in my opinionated opinion. I mean, if you've read anything of the cruelty she's heaped upon me, then you understand. However, I did this for you, so I hope you appreciate what I'm willing to put up with for my adoring fans.

Just saying.

K: Hello, Miss Winter.

JW: ...I don't trust that expression on your face. What's up, K?

K: What expression? I'm just smiling.

JW: Exactly.

K: Right. I forgot how well you know me. I was just hoping to interview you for my page. You don't mind, right? Great!

I will note that at this point she shot me an aggressively annoyed look. I was incredibly offended, of course. But, I am pleased to say that I did not retaliate in any way...that she could see.

K: My audience would like to know a few things about you, the author, and what makes you tick. To that end, I have devised a list of questions to ask you. They're important, and you must answer with absolute honesty.

JW: Your audience? You do realize that right now we're only at about 10 people, and most of those are family so they already know the answers to whatever questions you might think to ask, yes?

K: Maybe you only have 10 people. Not surprised, really. You're not the greatest author out there. Plenty of better stories to read.

JW: Better than yours?

K: ...Touche. Either way, I'm fairly positive I have more fans than you do, and I intend to deliver them the truth about the probably-never-will-be-famous Josephine Winter.

JW: Thanks for your vote of confidence.

K: First question. Why is it that you insist on creating lovable characters such as myself only to hurt them repeatedly and make sure their suffering is greater than necessary?

She dared to smirk at me at this question. Smirk! Like I had said something amusing! Can you believe it??

JW: I'm an author. Of fiction. Specifically fantasy, or in the case of your story, fantasy mixed with a bit of sci-fi. It comes with the territory.

K: I don't like your answer.

JK: I didn't expect you would.

K: Fine. Second question, then. What was your process in creating me? How did you design the awesomeness that I am?

JW: Are you sure you want to know?

K: My audience deserves the truth.

JW: Very well. When I was originally given the inspiration for the story by a coworker, I was told to make another coworker the main character. Your physical design is based on him, and part of your personality as well. Of course, I added my own elements so you wouldn't be an exact copy. I gave you some of my own characteristics and tendencies, then exaggerated them to give you your own unique flare.

K: I will accept that. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it, but I'll accept it nonetheless. My next question is this, what's your favourite food? And will I ever get to try it?

JW: Um. That's a broad question. I like lots of foods. Since it's the summer months currently, one of my favourites is watermelon. As for you getting to try one, we'll see.

I had to research what a watermelon was in order to understand her answer. It's not a food she's written into any of the realms, as far as I know. I hope I'll get to try one so I can tell her how disgusting it is. Unless it's delicious. Then I'll be disappointed.

K: Next question.

JW: Better make it the last one. I've got other things to do.

K: Like what?

JW: Like prep for the third installment of your series to be published.

K: Finally. Can you tell my audience what it's about?

JW: It's about you [K], and more of the trouble you constantly get yourself into. You'll have some more help this time around, and you'll get to show off some new skills you didn't know you had. You'll also get to meet some new characters, so that's gonna be fun.

K: Way to give absolutely nothing away. Can I share an excerpt?

JW: No spoilers.

...“Let me fly the nova.”

“Do you even know how?”

K shrugged, “I’ve been watching you for a while now. I think I understand the gist.”

“It’ll take more than a gist to outmatch that pilot,” Kiil’Zaer said with an amused smirk on his face.

“Just hear me out.”

Yn’Evor nodded.

“You’re predictable,” K stated directly. “Your movements are controlled and easy to read. Whereas I have no training. Anything I do to fly this thing will be unexpected.”

Kiil’Zaer laughed. “I like this kid. Give him a chance, Yn’Evor. He may just be the key to breaking out of their pattern.”

Yn’Evor didn’t seem convinced.

“Besides,” Kiil’Zaer continued, “with him at the controls, that leaves more room for you and I to turn the blasters on them. We can be the cover, and he can take us out of their reach.”

“You’re putting a lot of faith in him, Kiil’Zaer.” Yn’Evor risked another glance at K. “Fine. You’ve clearly got your heart set on it.”

“Yes!” K said excitedly. He slid into the seat as soon as Yn’Evor vacated it. Placing his hands on the controls felt right. The screen in front of him had no written commands, just like the controls aboard The TARAZED. Even so, he was eager to slide his fingers over the smooth surface. “Yes,” he said again. “This is going to be fun.”

“We’ll cover you,” Kiil’Zaer said with a wink.

K watched the green dots on the screen as they took the moment of opportunity to attempt to surround their nova. He grinned at that. “Alright. Strap yourselves in. This is going to get chaotic.”

The nova dropped.

“K!” Yn’Evor shouted.

He quickly caught them, his heart racing from the sudden rush. “Sorry,” he said with a laugh. “Just getting used to things. Don’t worry. I’ve got it. And if anyone asks, I totally meant to do that.”

I hope you all enjoyed this post. Sorry I didn't get much out of Ole Seph. I'll try to catch her at a better time another day.

As always, thank you to everyone who supports the K-11-7-4 series. With book 3 in the preparation stage for publishing, you can be sure that it will be released within this year. Ole Seph has neglected to divulge when that will be, but I promise to make sure it happens ASAP! I know you're all dying to know what's gonna happen to me.

Until next time!
